The Strawberry Line is one of North Somerset’s jewels.
I play an active role on the Council in moving forward the project to extend the Strawberry Line along (or close to) the old railway line to Clevedon.
Project elements:
I attend bi-monthly meetings and regularly discuss progress with council officers and Yatton Parish Council.
- The first 720m stretch of the onward extension adjacent to the Bloor Homes developments has been completed.
- Further discussion with landowners is currently underway to connect this new path to North End Road and Lampley Road (Kingston Bridge). This small section is our current priority as connecting the Bloor stretch with Duck Lane and Lampley Road would effectively allow access to Clevedon via Kingston Seymour – avoiding the dangerous B3133 entirely.
- Continuation under Lampley road bridge is also required to enable route to continue north towards Clevedon.
- We have also started to consider the link from Yatton station to Arnolds Way.
- Highways England has funded an initial survey to assess the suitability of allowing bikes to use a culvert to cross under the M5. (Due to high costs a new bridge is unlikely).
