Use of sites

The recycling centres will accept all items as normal, but please make full use of your kerbside recycling collection if you can.

If your items could be used by someone else, please set them aside until the charity shops re-open. Charities will need all our support.

Social Distancing and safety

You will notice significant changes to how recycling centres will operate. There will be social distancing measures in place to ensure the safety of staff and local residents. This will mean fewer people allowed on the site at one time. Please be considerate to others and be aware that a visit may result in much longer waiting times than normal.

Please note:

  • The number of vehicles allowed into a site will be limited
  • Only one person will be permitted at each skip at any one time and you will need to stay 2m clear of other people, so you will be asked to wait until a bay is free to unload your waste.
  • Only one person will be allowed outside each vehicle at one time. Exceptions will be made for people with mobility issues when two people will be permitted to unload the same vehicle.
  • Staff at the site will not be able to help unload. You should only bring what you can comfortably lift into the skips on your own.
  • You should bring protective gloves to avoid injury and to protect yourself from infection. Staff will be required to wear gloves as their PPE (not masks at this time).
  • You will not be able to walk waste into a site. You must arrive and leave by car for your own and others safety.
  • You should not visit a site if you are:
    • symptomatic with Coronavirus (COVID-19)
    • in a 14-day household isolation.
    • extremely vulnerable and are remaining at home for shielding purposes

The above measures will likely result in queuing. To help mitigate this we are:

  • Suggesting you check your route before leaving home. If you can, use sat nav or a mapping app with the live traffic layer turned on. This will help you gauge how busy the roads are near a centre.
  • Introducing a fair use policy and asking residents to be considerate and limit their use of our sites to one visit a month while these changes are in place.
  • Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are in operation at sites and if you are making very frequent trips you may be asked to return home without unloading your vehicle.
  • Asking you to sort your items when you load your car so that you won’t waste time doing this when you get to the recycling centre.
